Dominion is an independent energy company domiciled in Bermuda and dedicated to exploration for new oil and gas reserves in East and Central Africa. The Group was founded in 2004 and listed on the Alternative Investment Market of the London Stock Exchange in December 2006.
Our strategy is to become the leading independent upstream oil exploration company in this region. We intend to achieve this objective by using our experienced management team, our firm contacts and partners in East and Central Africa and our excellent understanding of the geology of the region.
Dominion offers investors the opportunity to participate in the early exploration of important emerging petroleum basins in Uganda, the Democratic Republic of Congo and Tanzania, with exposure to short-term and high-impact drilling.
Dominion's early entry and its strong local partners have enabled the company to gain a significant acreage holding in East and Central Africa. The company has 48,230 square kilometres (11.91 milllion acres) under four Production Sharing Agreements ('PSA's') in Tanzania. These include four licences onshore - Mandawa, Kisangire and Lukuliro (both under the Kisangire PSA) and Selous - and one licence offshore - Block 7. Dominion also has a licence for 2,021 square kilometres (0.50 million acres) in Uganda (Block 4B), in the Albertine Rift Basin, the site of several oil discoveries in 2006 and 2007. In the Democratic Republic of Congo, Dominion Petroleum will operate the exploration activity of Block 5, which incorporates 7,346 square kilometres (1.82 million acres) of land and lake areas.
Onshore Tanzania
Dominion’s wholly-owned subsidiary Dominion Oil and Gas Limited owns production sharing rights over three contract areas onshore in Tanzania with a combined area of 39,738 square kilometres (9.82 million acres). The Mandawa and Kisangire PSAs were signed on 20th May 2005; the Selous PSA on 27th April 2006. Mandawa (50% working interest, Maurel & Prom 50%) and Selous (100% working interest) PSA’s are operated by Dominion; Kisangire is operated by Heritage Oil and Gas through its subsidiary, Heritage Tanzania Kisangire Limited (Dominion 45% working interest).
Offshore Tanzania
In March 2007, Dominion Tanzania Limited - a wholly-owned subsidiary of Dominion Petroleum - signed a Production Sharing Agreement which grants rights to explore for petroleum in the offshore Block 7. Block 7 is located on the continental slope of the Indian Ocean, immediately east of Dar es Salaam and incorporates 8,492 square kilometres (2.10 million acres). Water depths in Block 7 range from less than 400m to more than 2,500m.
Uganda
On 27th July 2007, Dominion Petroleum's subsidiary, Dominion Uganda Limited, signed a Production Sharing Agreement with the Government of the Republic of Uganda which grants it exclusive rights to explore for petroleum in Block 4B. Block 4B is located in the south-west of Uganda including most of the Ugandan part of Lake Edward and incorporates 2,021 square kilometres (0.50 million acres). This area is a previously unexplored part of the Albertine Rift Basin where significant oil discoveries have been made since 2006. Dominion believes that Block 4B offers similar exploration potential.
In early 2008, Dominion acquired an airborne gravity and magnetic survey over Block 4B and its adjacent License in the Democratic Republic of Congo (Block 5). This proved the presence of a substantial thickness of sedimentary rocks capable of generating oil. A satellite radar-imaging survey has suggested the presence of oil seeps on Lake Edward. During the second half of 2008, Dominion is acquiring around 540 km of 2D seismic on land and lake areas of Block 4B. Early results suggest the presence of significant leads which can be drilled from onshore. Exploration drilling is expected to commence in 2009.
Democratic Republic of Congo
Dominion Petroleum’s subsidiary Dominion Congo Limited has signed a Production Sharing Agreement with Government of the Democratic Republic of Congo, which gives it and its partners exclusive rights to explore for petroleum in Block 5. Dominion will operate the exploration activity (46.75% interest) and its partners are SOCO International plc (38.25%) and State Oil Company, Congolaise des Hydrocarbures (‘COHYDRO’) (15%). The PSA is subject to and becomes effective upon ratification by the President of DRC.
Block 5 incorporates 7,346 km2 (1.82 million acres) of land and lake areas. It lies to the west of and includes part of Lake Edward and adjoins Block 4B in Uganda where Dominion has carried out exploration activity as operator since July 2007 (100% working interest). Both Blocks are part of the Albertine Rift system of sedimentary basins where significant oil discoveries have been made in 2006 and 2007. The addition of Block 5 to Dominion’s portfolio consolidates the company’s position as a major player in the exploration of the Albertine Rif
