AIM quoted Nighthawk Energy plc (ticker HAWK) is a dynamic UK registered energy company with a focus on the development of, and production from, hydrocarbon projects in the USA, a country with low political risk and a major shortfall in domestic oil and gas production.
Nighthawk holds substantial equity in four projects across the US mid-continent, all of which are operated by Running Foxes Petroleum Inc., Nighthawk's partner and holder of the remaining interest in each project.
Of our four projects, three are either in production or at the development stage and we expect all of our projects to make material contribution to the value of the Company in the future. Further details on each of the projects are set out in their own pages.
Jolly Ranch Location
Nighthawk holds a 50 per cent interest in the Jolly Ranch Group project, comprising Jolly Ranch, Middle Mist and Mustang Creek, located in Lincoln, Elbert and Washington Counties, Colorado. Running Foxes is the operator of the project and holds the remaining percentage interest.
The Jolly Ranch Group project covers an area in excess of 370,000 gross acres and lies within the southeast flank of the Denver Basin from where significant hydrocarbons are generated from Pennsylvanian sandstones and carbonates.
A key assessment of the property came in July 2009 when a review was undertaken by Schlumberger Data & Consulting Services, which looked at the petro-physical and geological data associated with the existing Jolly Ranch and Craig Ranch fields on a project area covering some 246,000 of the 370,000 leased acres.
The Schlumberger study assessed resources in the Pennsylvanian (Upper Carboniferous) Marmaton, Cherokee and Atoka formations using a 3D geological model constructed using the company’s seismic-to-stimulation software. The model took into account measurements from a number recently logged wells to come up with a P1 oil-in-place number of 1.2 billion barrels, a P50 best possible estimate of almost 1.5 billion barrels and a P90 of 1.7 billion barrels. The study also concluded there is potential for lateral continuity of reservoir and source rocks across the 370,000 project acres, pointing to additional upside.
Ten new vertical and lateral wells have been drilled to date by Nighthawk and Running Foxes during the course of 2009 and a further 20 are planned for 2010, each of which has encountered hydrocarbons in multiple formations.
Revere Location
The Revere project covering an area of approximately 40,000 acres comprises of the Devon Oilfield (80 per cent), Buchanan (50 per cent ) and Xenia (50 per cent) projects which have been integrated to form a major production and development entity following an excellent independent review. Running Foxes, the operator holds the remaining interest in the areas.
There are currently 111 wells under primary production without waterflood. The fact that primary production is occurring, without the effects of waterflood, is a major positive for the project. When the waterflood takes effect the production rates are expected to increase by a factor of between 2 to 10 times current production per well. Typical recovery is expected to be 15 to 25 per centof oil in place. A further 200 wells are planned over the next fifteen months.
Cisco Springs
Nighthawk holds a 50 per cent working interest in the Cisco Springs project located in Grand County, Utah, covering approximately 24,000 acres. Running Foxes, the operator holds the remaining interest.
An overall drilling and development programme of over 60 wells is ongoing. To date, 32 new wells have been drilled resulting in 30 reported commercial discoveries.
The wells have been evaluated for conventional gas on 40 acre spacing and oil on 10 acre spacing. The majority of the new commercial wells are gas producers, however a notable feature of this programme has been the discovery of significant oil zones.
Cliffs
Nighthawk holds an 80 per cent interest in the Cliffs Shale Gas project, covering 15,591 acres and located in Clark, Cumberland, Jasper and Crawford Counties, Illinois. Running Foxes holds 20 per cent and is operator of the project.
The project is located within the Illinois Basin, which is a significant producer of hydrocarbons that has yielded in excess of four billion barrels of oil from numerous reservoirs at less than 2,900 feet. Production has been derived from conventional reservoirs such as the Devonian and Silurian carbonates and the Rosiclare, Aux Vases, Benoist and St. Genevieve sandstones. The original source of over 90 of this production is the Devonian New Albany Shale at less than 4,000 feet which is in the gas window and is the primary target of the Cliffs project.
