Sasol Limited is an integrated oil and gas company with substantial chemical interests. Sasol mines coal in South Africa. Through Sasol Synfuels, this coal, along with Mozambican natural gas, is converted into fuels and chemical feedstock using Fischer-Tropsch technology.
The Company also has chemical manufacturing and marketing operations in Europe, Asia and the Americas. Its larger chemical portfolios include monomers, polymers, solvents, olefins, surfactants, surfactant intermediates, comonomers, waxes, phenolics and nitrogenous products. Sasol produces crude oil offshore Gabon.
The Company operates through three segments clusters: South African energy cluster (Sasol Mining, Sasol Synfuels, Sasol Oil and Sasol Gas), international energy cluster (Sasol Synfuels International and Sasol Petroleum International) and chemical cluster (Sasol Polymers, Sasol Solvents, Sasol Olefins & Surfactants, Sasol Nitro, Sasol Wax and Infrachem).
Sasol Petroleum International (SPI) is the upstream entity of Sasol Group and develops and manages the Groups' upstream interests in oil and natural gas assets.
SPI is responsible for the key elements of upstream operations which include: exploration, development and production. SPI has successfully secured, developed and commercialised gas and liquid assets in neighbouring Mozambique and in West Africa.
SPI owns and operates the single largest gas field on the east coast of Africa through its US$1,2 billion Mozambique Natural Gas Project. Gas is transported through an 865 kilometre cross border pipeline to Sasol’s largest operational site in Secunda, South Africa. The gas is sold in both the South African and Mozambican markets.
On the West Coast of Africa, SPI holds equity interests in the oil producing Etame asset offshore Gabon and various deepwater exploration and development plays in Nigeria.
SPI actively drives the upliftment of underdeveloped and disadvantaged communities in the locations they operate in.
